maytag stackable model 361000

Hi.
I have a Maytag stackable. The dryer has a model number of sG1000. Neither the washer or dryer work anymore. They worked fine, then there was a "bzzzzztttt" sound, and the smell of ozone filled the air. Something electrical fried.

A repair guy from Sears said it was the computer board that went bad, as the transformer was still putting out juice. I’m a technician for low-voltage systems, so taking stuff apart doesn’t intimidate me. On the circuit board, the problem was pretty obvious. The chip labeled U3 had fried. The chip doesn’t seem to have any printing on it. It might have burned away during the incident. I’m comfortable soldering circuit boards, as a few times a year I must do this for work.

What can I do? Where can I get a chip U3? Thanks!!

Hi Tony

I am afraid no one has replied to you because replacing chips on a board is just not something we do, or least not something I do.

I suggest you remove the board and take it to your favorite electronics supply store and see if they can identify the chip for you.

Good luck and let us know what you do and how it works out.
