Maytag Stove/Oven - oven will not turn off

We replaced our heating element and when we restored power, the oven heated up without us turning on the oven and we could not control the temp. We unplugged ion fear of burning out the new heating element. Please give us advise.

Check to see if the element is on high or is it on half way.
What I am thinking is that for some reason you are getting half the line to the element. This would put 120 volts on it and you could not regulate it.

Perhaps one of the mounting plates of if it has feet has continuity to the heating element when it should be isolated ( an open/ infinite ohms).

Another possibility would be that the relay on the control board has it’s contacts welded together.

Would that be expensive and how do we check for the control panel? We needc to decide to replace or attempt to repair on our own. The unit is 10 years old.

Control Panel is Item 2 in Section 2 $129.45

Safest way to check is:
Unplug the unit
Check the resistance of each side of the element to the frame.
Both sides should be open (infinite ohms)
If OK
Undo one of the wires going to the element.
Measure from that wire to L1
If your reading is not open (infinite ohms) then the bake element relay’s contacts are welded together.
