My freezer works, but the refrigerator side does not

I have a GE gss25jfmdww, the freezer side works fine but the refrigerator side is not cooling sufficiently. The freezer side is at about 10 degrees F and the frige side is about 50 degrees F, I replaced the main control board but the unit is still acting up, any suggestions?

Yes, pull the back panel off the freezer, and be sure there is no lingering frost build up back there. Then the other thing to check is, make sure the fan motor, next to the compressor is running. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

No frost, and the fan motor is running, at his current point in time, the freezer is still working fine and now the frige side is at 25 degrees F?

Ir sounds like the refrigerator damper control is malfunctioning. That has to be it. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

If I open the damper control will it shut on its own. That was the first thing I suspected, so I took the cover off and opened the little door on the damper control last night, by morning the frige was still at 58 degrees F and the damper control was still open, then when I got home from work tonight the frige is at 25 and the damper control is still open.

The first time you caught the damper door open, it might of just opened, or had just started to get intermitent. I t is obvious it staying open too long, because of the temps you are getting in the refrigerator. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

Now it’s been open all last night and the temp in the frige is 35 degrees F, I just want you to confirm that you believe that this is the problem before I spen $50.00 on a new one.

I don’t see anything else that would give the refrig that sort of swing. If it were the temp control, the freezer would get real cold also. I have seen the problem before, so it is not new to me. Plus for $50 bucks, you are not going to get rid of that refrigerrator. I understand that you want to be sure. Sometimes I have to take a plunge into a product, and give it an educated guess, and I have been repairing them for 30 years. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

I trust you more than I trust myself, I did find a used unit on ******** for $7.95 with $14.95 shipping, so I’ll get it and give it a try, I do know that the damper door does not move on its own AT ALL, thank you for your help.

Another thing, just now, I opened the freezer and it was at 50 degrees F, so I pulled the unit away from the wall and blew the dust out of the coils in the back and there was quite a bit of water in teh bottom pan under the compressor I cleaned it up and plugged it back in and it seems to be cooling fine now, and also the damper door which was open prior to me unplugging it is still open and hasn’t moved after I plugged the frige back in.

No matter what you tell me, what made the refrigerator get down to 24 degrees??? Surely not a dirty coil!!! Have you forgot about the 24 degree refrigerator!!! Good Luck!!! Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

No, this thing just confuses the heck out of me, now it is working fine and the damper door is even operating, after I already purchased the other one, I just need it to make it two more months until I get a new one. I still thank you for your help.
