My washer sounds like a chopper landing in our house!

Hello!

I feel a little sheepish posting on this forum, because I don’t have the skills that all the folks here have! I’m a young-ish woman with very little repair experience, but I want to learn how to repair, build and construct things. So here goes…

I purchased my GE Proile agitator-less washing machine in June 2009. I don’t recall any problems the first few months, but for the past year I have really noticed extremely loud noises while it’s in the spin cycle. It doesn’t matter what size load it is, it’s loud! (It is a little better with smaller loads on "delicate" or "handwash" cycles, however.)

We had a general applicance repair man look at it and he found nothing wrong. I don’t know how much he looked into it, though. He was at our house to look at the dishwasher primarily.

How loud is the noise? The washer is on the first floor. You can hear it on the second floor and it sounds like a chopper landing in the utility room. If you’re on the first floor you also get the joy of feeling slight vibrations, too. Our dog is very freaked out by this noise.

Anything I can do???

Thanks!

Heidi

Hi Heidi

The problem with a problem like yours is that it can be many things and one needs to be there to examine the machine.

What I suggest is that you take off the front cover and run the machine (with the dog away so it doesn’t get freaked out) and see if you can visually detect the problem.

The cover will come off if you insert a screw driver in the gap between the top and the front near the edges and release clips that hold the front to the cabinet. You will not harm anything running without the front, and you may see the problem, like something caught between the basket and tub.

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Thanks! I’ll try this in the next day or two and report back with my results.

Heidi
