I have a Whirlpool ED25RFXFW00 fridge that has issues. We woke up and realized everything was thawed out on both sides. There was no fan and no compressor running, but the lights worked. I believe the power flickered in the middle of the night (not sure if that plays into problem). I unplugged it, cleaned the coils, and plugged back in, and within 5 minutes, it started working. Sometimes it will run for days with no problem and sometimes it shuts off again, so I play with the thermostat and unplug it, and it usualy kicks on within 10-15 minutes. I thought maybe the overload/starter was bad, but there is no buzzing noise when it does not work, just total silence. I thought maybe the thermostat? I tried to remove the black cover for the overload/starter, to check and see if it rattles, but I cant seem to get the cover off. Not sure exactly where to put the screwdriver in and how hard to force it off without breaking it? When its running, it works great, but I constantly worry when it is quiet that it stopped working again and we will lose all the food again. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!
I still need help!!! When fridge has stopped for quite awhile, I have found that if I open it and bang on the panel where the temperature controls are and the defrost timer, it comes back on. My question is which part should I replace, or what is the easiest way to check?
It sounds like you either have a loose connection inside the control console, or a bad defrost timer.
