no spin, no agitation, burning smell

I get no spin or agitation on any cycle. It pumps out on spin and tries to agitate. After taking off belts, motor still does not run for agitate; it does run for spin/pump.
I thought it was the transmission until I took off the belt. Could it be the timer or motor?

update:: replaced lid switch … acts same

update: it does agitates properly. I had run it empty and forgot that the level sensor will prevent the motor from running when empty. when it fills agitation is OK.

so what remains is that on spin, it tries to agitate a bit. pumping is OK. no spin at all. and there is a burning smell. So it is looking more like a transmission. stay posted.

Remove the front panel and check the belt. Remove the belt and turn the transmission pulley CCW. If it’s locked up then the transmission is bad.

Yep, its hard to turn CCW [when viewed from the top]. :frowning: I have a new one to install. I followed the ‘tub seal replacement’. That got me as far as taking the 2 tubs out, but I can’t get the trans out.

how do I remove transmission?

fixed!

Smell: tightened pump belt by moving pump [but not too tight because it will loosen transmission pulley]. burning smell from hot belt much reduced… belt may still be worn.

Vibration: Tore down to tub a couple of times. Finally determined that tub may not be perfectly centered on trans. The problem was that I was centering the basket to the tub. It should be centered on the trans [mounting stem]. I tried to tighten it gradually, rocking the basket a bit to make sure it is evenly seated, between tightenings. The space between the tub and basket is not perfectly even, but it doesn’t touch and the basket is balanced better.

So now it should be good for another 15 years. tub seal had leaked just enough to get into trans] & no fingers mashed in the process. total parts cost ~ $320 [including the lid switch which I blew out by swapping wires]
