There is a loud noise coming from the behind the freezer compartment that varies some in pitch, but I noticed it will change by pressing on the cowling in the rear of the freezer compartment. Yesterday, I removed the ice maker, the upper cowling and rear cowling, removed the rear panel and looked at the evaporator fan motor area and fan blade. The fan blade can be easily moved from side to side and could be hitting on the sides of the chute that routes the air from the fan. The fan shaft that goes through the fan motor is easily moved from side to side in the motor itself and the motor is also easily flexed on its mounts. The fan is mounted about a quarter inch from the end of the shaft and I couldn’t help but wonder if it could be moved back on the shaft towards the motor and giving it clearance from the sides of the cowling. I reassembled the fridge and the noise hasn’t come back again (yet). Question: is the motor/fan assembly supposed to be as loose as that? Is it a variable speed fan, as it seems to "shift gears" at times? Is that a common problem with this fridge and what might be a solution? This has been going on for so long that it is almost accepted as a "feature" - but the noise is really irritating and loud. Help !! Thanks.
