My builder-grade GE side by side is acting up yet again. The ice maker grinds quite loud sometimes when dispensing ice. The solenoid for switching between cube and crush. If I defrost the freezer side, the solenoid goes back to working, but eventually it stops in the crush position. I was dispensed a piece of plastic and realized the auger was breaking apart. About three pieces have broken off at this point.
Is there anything else I should grab along with my new auger?

1. Would it stop that noise after you defrosted the freezer?
2. If the solenoid is freezing up, you have to find the way how moister gets in. The best solution maybe to replace the solenoid.
3. You have to determine it after you will dismantle the ice bucket.

The ice maker/dispenser is loud when dispensing cubes even after the freezer is defrosted It almost sounds like grinding of gears.
You have to replace the auger motor and you may want to replace the solenoid at the same time.

I had to bump this before I place my order. I noticed some frozen drips of water on the solenoid itself and on the metal plate/shield above it. Does that indicate a leaky valve? I didn’t not see that part on the parts diagram.

While reading through other threads, I found mentions of a water valve for the ice maker that could leak causing water to build up.
It could be a bad water inlet valve if the ice maker was overflowed.
Another cause of it could be the water feeding tube into the ice maker not aligned properly or not inserted all the way in.
I’m not able to see your refrigerator so you have to find where was the water coming from to form those icicles.
