washer skips rinse and spin cycle unless i either open and close the door at the proper time or after washer has stopped i go back and manually set the switch to spin.

The timer skips over these cycles but works if i set it manually after the washer stops.

Hi.

You need to replace the timer. To remove the knob push it in and hold the end of the shaft with needle noses, then pool the knob off.
