Hi all -
My old hand-me-down Whirlpool dryer has been making a pretty awful grinding/buzzing noise when running a heat cycle. I took the thing apart and cleaned it up (it needed it badly, turns out) but was unable to find any blatant smoking gun. Rollers turned easily, motor didn’t appear to be binding.
The noise lessens if I tilt the machine backwards, so I originally thought it was a balance thing, especially because the ground it sits on isn’t exactly level. No matter how much I play with the feet, however, I can’t get it to run quiet without physically putting upward pressure on the front.
After putting the machine back together, I noticed I do not hear the noise when it’s running a fluff air cycle - I’ve let it run for nearly 20 minutes and it’s fine. When I bump the temp up to Low, the machine runs for 40 seconds or so and then the grinding gradually gets louder and louder until it’s pretty constant.
From searching around the last few days, I’ve heard this could be a symptom of a bad blower wheel wigging out when the heat gets turned on. Would anybody else get on board with this diagnosis?
Thanks all!
