Hi, New to the forum. I have a whirlpool oven and the bottom heating element isn’t working. This is a built in oven and I’m not sure of the age. Can I replace the lower element on my own? I unscrewed the back plate to take a look at the connections and can’t figure out how to disconnect the element. I’d like to just replace the element before pulling the oven completely out for further testing. If it turns out to be more than just the element, then I pull it out completely. Thank you for your time. Crysttal
This is part is not too difficult to replace yourself. Remove the power to the range. Unscrew the two screws mounting the heating element bracket to the oven rear wall and carefully pull the element out. The wires are connected to the element with a simple push on terminals.

Hi Gene,
Thank you so much for your response. The element came out and what I see are two ends of the heating element attached to red covered wires(one for each end of the element). Very silly question here. Do I disconnect at that point or do I follow the red wires to disconnect at another point?
Thank you again Gene, Crysttal
You may want to disconnect the wires from the element terminals.
