My Maytag gas range Model CHG9800BAB is very slow to heat up to 350 degrees. It can take up to 20-30 minutes to reach 350. In fact, sometimes the over door blows open partially when it is heating up (very startling and strange). It does eventually heat up but I sometimes smell a gas order and wonder if gas is leaking. Even stranger, lately I cannot use the range burners at the same time the oven is on because the gas smell becomes more pronounced.
All these symptoms appears about 3 years ago when I was putting steel wool under the oven near the back wall where the range is situated, in order to seal off some small crevices between the wall and the floor. Do you think I may have disturbed the gas connection when I was poking around under the oven?
I appreciate any advice you can offer. I am holding off on calling a repair service as I am not quite sure if I need a repair or a new oven, as the oven is from 1996 (although not used everyday).
Thanks so much,
