Rear bearing replacement - Frigidaire

My front loading machine sounds like a jet that is taking off during the spin cycle. It appears to be the rear bearing. However, I have a few questions:

  1. I understand that the rear bearing alone cannot be replaced. Instead, I need to replace the shell and rear bearing (131462800). I think this can be done (with some difficulty) without removing the entire tub. Is this true?

  2. When I rotate the tub, I can hear something loose between the tub and shell. Sounds like a piece of metal. What are the chances that more than the rear bearing has failed - possibly the spider arms?

  3. Assuming I decide to attempt this repair, how do I remove the shell/rear bearing from the shaft? It doesn’t look like there is a place to attach a puller?

Thanks,
Jason

Here is the service manual,

and yes, the spider assembly may well be broken, it happens a lot.

In your situation a replacement machine should be strongly considered.

Thanks for the quick response. Replacement of the machine is not what I had hoped for but I appreciate your honesty.
