Refrigerator Cooling Rate

Hi,

I’m a little concerned that my refrigerator may be going bad. It is cooling but seems to be slow and not sure how slow it’s supposed to be.

For example, when I get wake up in the morning and the fridge has been closed all night, the temp is very cold (usually 33 to 36 F)…However, when I open it a few times, even if only for a few seconds, the temp quickly jumps up to the 43 to 46F range and takes several hours of being closed for it to re-cool back to under 40 degrees…Sometimes it will stay in the 42 to 44 range for 4 to 6 hours before it finally getting back to 40 or below…Is this normal or is that cooling too slowly?

Based on the food safety guidelines that food should not be above 40 degrees for more than 2 hours, I assume mine is cooling too slowly? The freezer seems to maintain 0 degrees.

As a side note, I have noticed the past few months that when the unit first turns on after a defrost cycle, it makes a strange vibration/motor-racing sound for about the first 10 seconds. Not very loud, but enough to notice it from across the room. Is that a sign of something?

Thanks for any help!
