Refrigerator leaking

Hi, this refrigerator/freezer is leaking maybe a half-cup of water per day into the refrigerator from the (upper) freezer section.

I understand from several threads that this is likely due to a plugged drain. With this model unit, are the instructions generally to access the pan and drain from inside the freezer as other posts have suggested for other Whirlpool models?

There appears to be no access panel in the back other than at the base of the unit.

I really appreciate your help.

Hi Tom,

Remove the ice cube tray shelf. Remove the screws securing the freezer floor and pull the floor out. Remove the screws securing the rear panel and pull the panel out.

The drain hole is under the evaporator coils. You can use a hair dryer to defrost it and a turkey baster with hot water to make sure it goes through.

Thank you so much - you’re the salt of the Earth. A mensch.

You are welcome. Thank you for your good words.

Hi, Gene - sorry to bother you, but another question because I can’t tell from the parts schematic - how do I tell when I’ve cleared the drainage line? I don’t know how long the tube is - I can only see down the drain maybe 3/4 inch. Sorry, never mind - I think I can see the pan in there - the drainage "tube" itself is maybe only a half-inch long itself, right?

Run some hot water through the drain using a turkey baster. Pull the refrigerator out of the wall. Remove the rear cover and you should see the other end of the drain hose. Make sure it’s clean too.

Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I’m glad to hear I could help you out. If there is anything else we can help you with, drop us a line.
