relay clicking on and off during agitation

trying to fix my daughters washer. When it agitates everything moves fine but the motor starts jumping and sounds like a relay keeps clicking on and off and can see little sparks at the connector. The machine works fine in the spin cycle. I took the belt off the transmission seems a little rough. When i put the belt back on it started to do the same thing in the spin cycle loosened the belt and the spin works fine again but the agitator still acts up. They live a hour away so i don’t really need to keep driving there and back.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Donald

Probably a bad motor, GE has had a lot of problems with these.

Wouldn’t a bad motor cause the same thing to happen when spinning? If it is the motor I think they would be better off buy a new machine instead of spending $200 for a new motor. They have 2 young kids and do alot of laundry. What do you think?
