Remove front water disp cover w/o breaking.

My water dispensing switch is stuck on. I cannot get to it without removing the front plastic cover. If I tug at the center, it reveals that it is somehow fastened to the top and bottom. Looking at the front diagram of the dispenser front parts, it does not show any screws and I know it is not glued. this part is not available anymore. How do I remove it without breaking so that I can access the water leaver mechanism? Note, I tried a method someone suggested by pushing down and prying out with a screwdriver, but the plastic cover will not move side to side and it was starting to crease. I know it comes off as I have seen it off when they added heater strips to keep my water sdispenser from freezing. I just don’t remember how to remove it.

The previous answers on similar questions revealed that the answer did not apply when you have a covering. I have the whirlpool block door covering and it was stopping the faceplate part AP2976404 from being pushed down to release it. I removed the door handles and the magnetic black 1’4 inch decorative covering and the face plate removed by pushing down on it imediately. I wish I had known that before I tore the faceplate. They do not have replacements in stock!

The gentleman was correct. I also had the black covering on the front of my refrigerator. When I removed the hardware brackets that held the black plastic covers in place, I could then see the slots on the bottom of the cover panel to insert the flat head screwdriver into. I was then able to pry the cover loose successfully. Thanks.
