Hi. The dispenser switch on the water/ice dispenser unit on the door is failing. I can’t figure out how to remove the switch or the entire unit to get at it. I removed the 2 screws under the drip tray, but it won’t come out. It seems like the electronic panel at the top needs to come out first, but I can’t see how to remove it. Any help would be great!
Some of these can really be challenging. Make sure there are no screws into it from behind. They are usually hidden under the freezer door gasket. There generally are not any screws back there, but check to be sure. It looks like the chrome outer molding needs to be pried off carefully which then allows you to remove the control panel. It’s hard to tell for sure without actually being there though. They are notoriously difficult to get apart. Check part availability on what you need to replace and what might break getting it apart before you give it a go.
The chrome bezel seems attached to the body of the unit, there aren’t any screws under the trim. The bottom of the assembly seems like it would come out, but the top is pretty solid. I think the electrical display panel has to come out first, but I can’t figure out how. All I really need to do is fix the dispensing switch, but I can’t figure out how to get to it.
Thanks,
Bryan
They are usually clipped in with plastic clips. Generally don’t use screws. 50/50 shot something breaks when taking it apart. Typically just a clip though. Plug your model number in and look at the diagrams for the front and you can see where the clips are and what sections it comes apart as. That’s about the best I can do without being there. Trial and error is a real thing with these.
