Shift mode assembly

Our G.E. washing machine recently started making a clanking sound when it was agitating. After investigating and researching over the internet I figured out that the Shift mode assembly was bad, confirmed by the 4 blinks from the LED light on the motor.
So I ordered the new part for $95 and installed it. Once installed the washer would not agitate or spin at all, only fill and drain. I did the recommended reset procedure from G.E. -nothing. So then I plugged a spare motor into the washer to see if it was maybe the motor that was bad. Same thing. I then unplugged the shift mode assembly and the washer would then go through the proper sequence, but of course not disengaging the Cam on the mode shifter since it was not plugged in.
I then replugged everything back into motor on the washer except the mode shifter and the washer would again go through the proper sequence. As it was going through the cycle I replugged in the mode shifter and it engaged the cam and immediately started to stink as it was being fried.
Puzzled and pissed I check the mode shifter with a meter, it read open -no continuity. I then checked the motor output for that lead and it read 300v DC
Thinking that couldn’t be right I then checked the spare motor and it gave the same reading.
I’m at a total loss on this and any help would be great. I just wonder if I possibly got a defective new mode shifter? Sorry For the length.
