side by side fan continuously starting/stopping

I have a Frigidaire PLHS269ZCB3 side by side refrigerator with a fan that is obviously starting/stopping very frequently for long periods of time. This started several months ago and is progressively getting worse. So far the cooling inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments appear to be fine. The fan will be off and then it will start spinning about 1s approximately every 5s, then 2s once every 5s, then a couple of 3s bursts and then on. The duration of 1s… followed by 2s has been increasing. When it started this behavior would last just a couple of minutes and the fan would be on. Lately it has been going on for 30 minutes or even hours before the fan comes on solid. The fan that is turning on/off rapidly is in the back of the freezer compartment. The compressor fan (or whatever it’s called) that blows/draws air through the bottom front of the unit appears to be working fine.

I have done nothing to debug this problem since I don’t really have a clue where to begin. If there is a likely part that is the cause, I will just go replace it and hope to get it. I wanted to check the coils to clean them but I don’t have a bloody clue where they are located or how to get at them to clean them.

Thanks for any guidance on this.

Cheers,
Scott

If the evaporator motor shuts off when you push the door switch in, AP2111353, and if it fails to start the motor somtimes when you push it in, replace it. If ok, remove the evaporator fan motor AP4700070 and plug in the walloutlet to see if it still fails. If not, you have an intermittent connection someplace in the freezer.

Is the fan you are referring to the one inside the freezer compartment that circulates cold air inside the freezer and refrigerator?

Yes, that’s the evaporator fan motor.

I was just listening to the fan doing the start/stop thing and playing around with the door switches in both freezer and refrigerator compartments and noticed something else relevant. In the box that contains the damper and adaptive defrost control (I’ve been studying your exploded parts view for the unit) I noticed a clicking type of noise each time the fan was on briefly. When it finally started there was no clicking noise. I will taken this apart and clean up all of the contacts and see what else I learn in the process.

I did determine the behavior does not change when pressing or releasing the door switches.

Seems like you have a bad adaptive defrost board.

I ordered part AP4909015 from your website and installed it just now. I had ADV II with two damper motor switches. Per the instructions I needed to replace the wiring harness. Everything seems to be working fine now, however, the new wiring harness that I received does not have the fast ice/fast freeze heater connector. My refrigerator has this connector. I checked and checked. The harness I received does not have this connector. The harness shown for this part on your website does not have the fast ice/fast freeze heater connector. Is there another version of this product that has the correct wiring harness?

How do I receive the correct wiring harness so my refrigerator will perform as designed?

I would call this parts site and exlain the problem.

I called them. They are sending this to their research team since it appears as if Electrolux is packaging or designing this part incorrectly. The pictures of the wiring harness on this website match the part I received. The problem is that it is lacking the fast ice/fast freeze heater connector which my refrigerator has.

Can you explain the purpose of the fast ice/fast freeze heater? I want to make my own decision if this is even worth the effort to pursue. Other than this missing connector, the new ADC has solved the problems that I was having.

For anyone reading this having a similar issue here is the text from the instructions "NOTE 4: The Wiring harness in the kit has a connector for the fast ice/fast freeze heater installed on the freeze control bulb (See Figure3). If the product you are servicing does not have a heater on the control bulb place the unused connector under the damper motor to keep it out of the way when you reinstall the control box." Figure 3 in the instructions is difficult to make out but I have provided a scan for reference and a picture of this connector on the original wiring harness that came with the original ADC II on this refrigerator.
