Our Microwave has the F3 code and will not work, even after unplugging and plugging back in. I see that the F3 code is a shorted touch pad panel.
Is this something we can fix ourselves, or do we need to call service?
What is the complete model number of the microwave and the color of the key pad?

Thank you.
How hard it is to replace? Where can I get instructions?
You have to remove the top grill and open the control panel. Remove all wires from the control board and remove the control panel from the microwave. Remove the screws secured the control board to the control panel bracket and remove the control board. I’m not sure if the bracket has to be removed as well. You’ll see it.
The membrane switch is self adhesive.

Gene,
I have almost the same problem but mine (model JVM1860SF001) won’t stop running the fan and has code F3, which part do I need to replace? The button pad is black.
Thanks for your help!
The "F3" error code is the same for all GE 1800 series microwaves.
Regarding the problem with the fan, the cause can be a shorted touch pad as well but there is a small chance for the smart board to be bad too.
I would replace the control panel first, hoping it’ll solve both problems.
