Top load washer is direct drive. Began loud thumping and grinding sound during high speed of the spin cycle. Readjusted clothing multiple times but noise continued. Eventually stopped spinning and would not agitate, but the motor continued to hum in wash and spin cycles. Water drained fine despite no spin. Checked motor coupler and it was broken. Replaced this. Agitator worked again. Washer would again spin, but loud thumping and grinding sound still occurs during spin cycle. Could this be a transmission problem that eventully caused the motor coupler to break? Other possibilities?
