My problem is that the washer will not spin with a full load. If I go down when the washer stops and take out some of the clothing and reset to spin. It will spin but with a full load when I open the lid the clothes are laying on the bottom soaking wet. We replaced the gearcase last year. Glancing thru the parts list I do not see a belt. Could anyone help me and tell me what it could be.

You need to monitor the washer while it’s doing a load first. After agitation stops, the washer should drain for a couple minutes without spinning, then the motor must pause for a few seconds and start again at which point it should start spinning. If there is no pause, the timer is faulty. If there is a pause but it still won’t start spinning with a heavy load, the most likely culprit is a worn clutch.

I assume the drain pump is attached to the motor? If so, it sounds as though the motor windings burnt up. Most home washers the drain pump attaches directly to the motor, so the motor has to spin to get the water out. If it just sits there and hums then that would be the most likely problem. The other problem it could be would be the transmission has locked up and is preventing the motor from turning. Both are expensive, the motor at least 200 the transmission more, so it may be time for a new washer.
Assuming the washer agitates ok and the fact that the washer does spin with a light load, it is highly unlikely that any motor windings are burnt up. This would be extremely rare for a Whirlpool motor. Not likely that the gearcase is the problem either since again, it does spin under light load. An easy way to check the motor and gearcase is to run the machine with the cabinet off and lid switch bypassed. Observe the clutch hub while in spin mode. If the clutch hub is spinning, then the motor and gearcase are fine. If clutch hub is spinning but basket is not, the problem could be a worn clutch, sticking brakes, worn drive block or other problem with basket drive or possibly clothing caught between the tubs. As I said, the motor must pause after draining or the gearcase will remain in neutral and never go into spin.

Ok, make sure you purchase a genuine Whirlpool FSP replacement. Don’t buy those $8-$15 clutches found on amazon and e bay. They are cheap pieces of junk and might last a few loads if your lucky.
