Thank you, Doug. I’m going to take the board out next week and see if I think I can tackle this. I’m also trying to fix a gas valve on my Thermador SCGS365RS cooktop and am hoping it’s the pentiometer it needs and nothing else since you can’t buy the valve any more. My icing kit went out on my built in Monogram, too! Oh, and also my A/C, so not a good week for me! Thank you for explaining the capacitors.
Thanks for your help on this problem!! Do you have part numbers from Mouser ??
The 470’s I got were 647-UBT1V471MHD I think. For some reason they are not showing a 68uF / 35V version any more. Might want to call on that. As you apply filters on the site you can narrow down the choices - the ones you want are electrolytic radial.
Thanks Doug!! Gonna attempt this. Do I need an extra small soldering iron??
I bought a $15 pencil point type, but in retrospect the one I had probably would have been fine. I found the p/n’s. I used Panasonic made parts;
for the 68uF - Mouser 667-EEU-FC1V680 and for the 470’s - Mouser 667-ECA-1VHG471. The Panasonic part number is the same as the Mouser number, just drop the first three digits. I also bought the parts I mentioned above, but went with the panasonics. I had never heard of the other company.
I would like to know the complete web address that was blanked out.
Thanks

Does anybody know where one can but just the display?

This part is no longer available even as a kit with the relay board. Thermador wants to make more money on these capacitors.
Gene.
Yeah, if Thermador did sell the capacitors (which they don’t) they would be making a killing at $1.08 each.
They don’t want any part of this repair and refer you to a third party, and after you convince them that they do repair this display, they will quote you $178.
Thanks to Doug Cuny for parts list etc etc for helping me make a succesful repair to my SCD302. After hooking up the display after connecting each new capacitor, it was the small one (68u) that seemed to be the culprit. Not too hard a job. A little scary. My family thought I was nuts, just to attempt it. Had a little experience soldering an old Heathkit TV when I was a kid… Now to repair the golf ball shattered glass in the oven door  My 12 yr old starts working a job tomorrow to pay for this one:)
Everything you own, owns a piece of you!!
anon.
I didn’t do much except read this forum and ask a bunch of questions, the knowledge was already here.
I replaced the 3 capacitors and the display is still dim. Any other ideas?
Sorry, no ideas from me. Unless of course you wanted to retry doing the capacitors. Maybe one of the joints didn’t come out good?
I keep reading about a soution for the display issue and am curious to know if anyone has been successful with this bit of surgery on a CMT227N.
It is a 1999 model, so a little older than the 302. The "not repairable" I get from Thermador has put me in a bit of a bind in that the unit fits in a narrower opening than most ovens available today.
My oven is also older scd272 (2000) and Thermador paid for the repair. Call them.
Who repaired it? I sent the part in and Thermador did not want to touch it.
The display on our oven is very dim, the only part of the display that shows anything is the clock, the oven still seems to work.
I was going to order the touchpad because the connections seemed a little sloppy in back.If I change that, the problem should be fixed?
TIA
I had the same symptoms you describe, I change the 3 capacitors as mention in the post.It corrected the proplem. The touch pad is likely not your problem.
Note that on some models (SMY272YP) the C3 cap is actually a 220uF cap
If you have the 220uf cap in place of the 68uf you may find that your display is already bad and needs to be replaced. I beleive that that circuit may be a voltage doubler circuit and by increasing the cap raises the vlotage to the display. That will shorten the life of the display to the point of having to replace the display itself
Probably so. Replacing the 220uF cap did nothing to improve the display. have not replaced trhe 470uF cap’s, but not sure that will make a difference. This board was replaced in about 2005/6, but degraded over time. Have had nothing but problems with this product since we bought it in 2002.
