Timer Knob Removal

How do I remove the timer knob on an older maytag washer model number LA612?

Thank you so much. When I finally got the knob cover off someone else had glued it on, had to have been from the factory. Thank the Lord though I won the old washer is cranking again. First time I have worked on it and we bought it new in 1990 and it has gone through me and mom, 8 kids, all there friends and numerous pets. I’m sure it will die someday but what a great washer it has been.

Dad,

Unplug the power cord first,

With a small flat blade screwdriver, Carefully insert it between the center knob cover, and outer knob assembly and pry out on the center.

Be very careful here, don’t loose anything small, slightly press in on the knob, using the screwdriver press up or down on the green colored retainer clip, and release it from the timer shaft, Slowly slide the knob off the timer shaft, and remove the spring, and remove the timer skirt . If needed, you’ll see two(2) screws holding the timer to the control panel, remove the screws. On the front top corner of the control panel There are two(2) screws, remove the inner screw on each side and pull out at the top of the panel. You now have access to all the control switches and timer.

Good Luck,
