Timer knob won't engage

When I start my washer, I should be able to push in control knob and turn the timer knob with it. Now I have to manually turn the timer knob (which is kind of a pain). Once the washer starts, the timer works fine. Do I need a new timer knob or some clip to get it engaged?

On these GE models the "teeth" on the timer knob wear off and it will not turn the timer. All you have to do is replace the timer knob, which is very inexpensive.

The knob is held on with a plastic clip behind it. Use needle nose pliers to get the clip off, the knob will then come off, put the new on one, put the clip back on and you are all set.
