GE Profile Washer. The timer knob that you turn around to select your washing type and duration and you pull it to start/stop the washer has become difficult to turn. What I mean is it just wants to spin…normally you put pressure and turn and you hear clicks until you get the knob to where you want the washing to start. It is very difficult to get these clicks, the knob just wants to spin freely. I do it now by also pressing on the outer ring that has the indicator mark showing where in the wash cycle you are.
I am handy in DIY but not sure what part needs replacing. I see these are the main parts:
Compression Ring: AP2044988
Dial Assembly: AP3207190 (Indicator ‘ring’)
Timer knob clip: AP2044614
Timer knob: These didnt come up in the parts list…it is #8 on the diagram, but not listed. Maybe it is out of stock?
The big item is the Timer Washer…the main assembly itself: AP2045876
Any help is appreciated.

On these GE models for some reason the little teeth on the inside of the timer knob wear off. All you need to do is replace the knob, really that’s all, nothing else.
I didn’t see it either on the diagram, but it is a very common part and the one dial fits many models. Just call APP and get them to send you one.
Great! I notice there is a clip in that exploded view, does it hold on the knob and do I need a replacement?

Pull out the knob and use a thin screw driver or thin needle nose pliers to pull off the clip. YOu can reuse it, it is just a little tricky to get back on (at least for me) but stay with it and you will be able to do it. It goes in a slot on the timer shaft that you will see when you get the knob off.

well, I replaced the knob and it didnt fix the issues. I did notice a couple teeth were missing from the knob, but it still spins.
Are there teeth on the ring itself? the ring has the indicator arrow on it.
Open up the console and check the timer. It may have broken away from the console, that happens a lot.

sorry, I was travelling and just got back to this.
You mean remove the panel itself and see if the timer assembly has broken away?
Could the teeth on the timer shaft (that mate up to the knob teeth) be broken? I find it curious that I can turn it with the outer ring, but not the knob.
On top of the console are some screws that will allow you to open up the console. Check and see if the timer has broken in some way. If not sounds like you may have to replace the timer, or if it were me I would try to live with it because I am a very cheap person.
