my washer timer is not pulling out or going in

my washer timer knob. right now is acting like you have the knob pulled out. you spin it and it turns that cycle on automatically. no need to pull on knob. I am thinking that the timer is failing. it still goes thru the cycles but now its doing. this. I am planning on just getting a new timer. I know that most people would just throw it away and get a new washer but i would rather fix it and extend the life of something.

Is there anything else that it could be? the knob also does not seem to grip when you go to select cycles. You have to grab hold of the ring that is right against the control panel and spin it to select your cycle. thank you for any and all help

I think you are in luck. The plastic teeth on the timer knob on these GE models break a lot, and you may be able to fix things by just replacing the knob.

Here is the parts diagram for your model.

Notice the U shaped clip behind the timer knob. Use needle nose pliers to pull it off and the old knob will come off. Put on a new knob and you may be all set!
