top electric wall oven won't heat (bake or broil)

Yesterday evening, while trying to preheat top oven of our electric double wall oven (Kenmore), the oven abruptly stopped heating. The bottom oven still works fine. Neither the bake or broil element will heat, you just hear a slight clicking sound, similar to when it worked (like a relay cycling on and off). The control screen looks fine, and no codes displayed. Could a faulty limit switch be causing the issue? Possibly unrelated, but thought I’d mention anyway… Several years ago, we began getting woken up in the middle of the night by an eratic beeping sound. After several attempts to resolve, we finally were guided toward putting a thin piece of paper between the two ribbon wires between the clock & control board. Solved the problem. I’m relatively handy, and have a volt/omh meter. Might this help me diagnose? Hate to just start replacing parts, as the "Oven Control" for this unit is nearly $300. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
