I have the same problem agraywall. I have a Whirlpool Gold Model # GY398LXPS. My control panel has been erractic for the last few months. The current problem is that the off button for the oven will not work. Everything else is functional. I have been pulling out the drawer to pull the plug each time I need to turn it off.
I wish only a couple buttons didn’t work. I want to order the touch panel or the control module behind the buttons but I don’t know which one to replace.
I might just order both and return the one that I don’t need.
A couple weeks ago I contact Whirlpool and received absolutely no sympathy from them. I feel totally ripped off.
Gene told me to install the Ferrite Ring and I just tried and same thing. Can you tell me which parts they replaced or adjusted and how much cost you? Send to me - johnmou8@yahoo.com Thank you.
Hi Gene,
Thank you for the help. I received the Ferrite Ring and installed as instruction sheet. But still shown "PF" and same as before the oven not working. Note: my range’s spark module is not next to touch pad control panel, it’s under the left front burnner. But I still install ring over the main wire harness. Please let me know what I should do next? Thanks.
Ok Gene’s tech. came and replaced the control panel. He noticed that Whirlpool redesigned the structure of the panel. It appears that possibly the ribbon was rubbing on the metal panel, now it’s all one piece. So possible design flaw, that explains a failure after just 1 year.
So you will likely need to buy the $150 control panel.
Hi Gene,
Thank you for the information. I search the internet, there are at least 5 cases recently post on internet for the same Whirlpool medel and same problem. Do you think this is a defect from Whirlpool? Is Whirlpool should have some kind responsible? And can you represent us to have some kind deal with Whirlpool?
another case as attached- http://forums.**********.com/range-repair/anyone-can-help-wit-my-oven-ctrl-panel-6570.html
GENE, Thanks for your info. I failed to tell you that my Control Panel will not work at all. Lights up and clock works but unable to use any controls on Panel. I see that alot of people are haveing trouble with Whirlpool with this same problem, with panel reading PF, thanks in advance
Go ahead send e-mail to Whirlpool to complain the problem. As more complain to Whirlpool I hope they’ll take some action, like "RE-CALL". see below for where to complain.

Looks like the problem is a bad membrane switch which comes as a part of a new, redesigned control panel.
I do not think Whirlpool will take it as a recall because this problem did not cause any danger to the consumers. Consumers could try to file a group lawsuit which is very hard and takes a very long time.
The part number for the control assembly (included the membrane switch) is AP4263577
If compressor gone bad - there is no other way to fix it.
About Whirlpool refrigerators: in my opinion they are on top of any others today and I just bought one for myself. Just look for a model without computers!
