I am trying to replace the ice maker unit on the fridge in my office. I called a repair man and he recommended I do it myself to save money, saying it was just a matter of taking out and putting back in two screws. Well, he was right, but the unit still doesn’t work.
One thing I really had trouble with was getting the power cord to connect to the freezer. It is connected but I couldn’t get it to line up completely flush despite my best efforts.
It also appears that the mechanical arm that causes it to run through it’s cycle moves horizontally as opposed to the old one which operated vertically. I think this might be part of the problem too because the power cord appears as though it may be blocking it’s path.
Refrigerator is made by GE, model # TFX25JRYD WW
Ice Maker replacement is model # WR30X10093
I’ve never worked on a refrigerator in my life and I’m trying to save the company some money by replacing it myself. Help! I really appreciate it!
I know it’s kinda tricky to get that wire in the right place, is the icemaker mounted on the left wall, or in the center of the freezer? And what is the new icemaker not doing?
Thanks, abadfish. It’s located on the left wall and it doesn’t appear to be doing anything. I installed it last night and this morning it appears as though nothing has happened.
Well, they did "pull up" but if you mean did they open, like on a hinge type action, no, they didn’t. Actually, I pulled them a little too hard and they popped out of place but I put them back in.
Yes, there is a notch on the plug, like a square with one of the corners cut out. It is lined up properly, but not completely flush. There is a small gap in the connection. It looks like it’s in enough for the pins to be engaged, but maybe they aren’t. I sure can’t get it to go any further. I guess I’ll have to keep fighting with it but I think it’s a fight I’m going to lose. ha!
Your pulling up on the wrong finger of the icemaker You need to pull up on the ones inside, not the plactic front, that is a guid and remains stationary, the ones I’m talking about rotate around in a circle to eject the icecubes from the mold…try again, pull up on that, you will feel it click as you do it, when you feel it click a couple times let it go and watch what it does…Does it go around? Does it fill with water once it goes all the wat around?
Yes, I got in there with a mirror and a flashlight and I can see the fingers you are referring to. They protrude from the center shaft, right? I tried to move them, but they are directly underneath the fingers of the "guide" thereby blocking them from being pulled up. I was able to get one of my fingers in there and and push down on it but that didn’t do much. Please forgive my ignorance, I really appreciate your patience and help.
The lever is in the "on" position right? The home position of those fingers is straight back pointing to the left wall, and as the icemaker harvests ice those finger move twards the right wall and around 360 degrees. So if those fingers are pointing down, or to your right move them twards your left to activate the manual harvest, if you move them and nothing happens, you have a power problem, bad connection somewhere.
I see, that explains quite a bit. Ok, I will position those fingers to be pointing to the left wall of the freezer and see what she does. Hopefully that’ll do the trick. Fingers crossed. Thanks a lot, abadfish, I really appreciate it! Great help!
