Warm Fridg, Cold Freezer, Looking for tips

Two year old Home Depot Fridge.
Some questions for knowledgable folks:

  1. Which parts are involved in defrosting in this model?
  2. I have checked the heater and it has continuity. Is there any way to see it working?
  3. When I pulled the freezer back off there was a little ice but not much. Coils were white but not a solid block of ice… yet the freezer is cold and the refridg section is still in the 50s. All the air path ways seemed clear. Both fridge and freezer compartments empty. Fan was rotating when powered up. What’s left?
  4. There is ice building up on the back wall of the freezer. Should there be? When I changed the damper control I could tell I was breaking up a little ice. Sign of defrost issue?
  5. In the liner parts diagram there is part 34. I can’t locate that part in my fridge. What’s the story there?

Running out of ideas here with this model. Thanks.

If the evaporator is only partially frosted, check the condenser motor and condensing coils.
If ok and the compressor is hot and vibrating, the condensre motor running with the condenser coils warm, you probably have a bad compressor/and or refrigerant leak. Gauges and amprobe would confirm.
