washer fills, and agitates,until first stop will not drain or spin

washer fills, and agitates on first cycle, timer moves until the wash cycle is over and is time to drain, rinse and spin. if we play with the timer to try to get it to do anything else, sometimes it will agitate when it should be on the spin cycle, we have replaced the timer and wired the lid switch direct still no good, found broken red wire on motor harness repaired temporary thought we had it STILL no good, got any ideas!!! it’s driving us nuts, any help would be grateful.
