Washer vibrates in spin cycle

Washer vibrates in spin mode. I made sure the machine was level, ran it without water or clothes in spin mode and it still vibrated too much. Aren’t there springs that control or dampen vibration? How do you check them? Is there anything else that can cause excessive vibration?

Pull the front panel and check the springs. If ok and you observe white plastic shavings on the bottom near the tranny dome, you have a bad snubber that needs to be replaced.

I have inspected the machine as you directed. All six springs are in place and appear to be in good shape. Although I am sure I do not see the snubber directly there is a layer of white dust (I cannot call what I see savings) all over the bottom and splotches of white residue on the drain hose in the back of the washer. My feeling is that if the subber were ok there would be NO white residue/dust on the bottom just dust?

So if you concur and feel the snubber should be replaced just how is this done. I am mechanically quite adept but have never replaced a "snubber". Directions would be helpful…Poppi68

Hello:

My wonderful Maytag will no longer agitate or spin. It fills and drains only. I purchased the machine in 1994 from Montgomery Ward. I just replaced the lid switch assemby, which included the lid switch, the lid switch check, and the fuse. This did not help. When you manually turn the dial to agitate or spin, with NO water in the machine, the machine just sits there, with no sound whatsoever, and no movement. The agitator inside of the tub will NOT spin in either direction when you try to spin it with the machine turned off. I have removed the agitator to see if anything was jammed under it, and it was free and clear of any debris. This has been as excellent machine, and I don’t want to lose it. The machines now are not built as solidly or as well.
