washer will not agitate but will spin out clothes

The washer on wash cycle will not agitate but will spin out clothes when this happened smoke starting coming of the washer and smelled like rubber not electrical smell like a belt. could the problem be the belt and if so with belt and how do I get to the belts. Thanks for all your help in this matter. Tim

Belts and pulleys are on bottom of machine. Tilt back for access. Rotate main pulley in center CW for spin, CCW for agitate. If it won’t go CCW, check under agitator for clothing jamming it. If that’s clear, take the dust cover off the main pulley and inspect the stop lug. The lug is splined to the transmission input shaft. The pulley has a "dog" on it that drives the stop lug which drives the input shaft for agitation. If pulley and stop lug are intact but you can’t rotate pulley in CCW direction, the transmission is faulty.

The pulley moves both cw and ccw. i moved the main pulley by hand and the belt. could the problem be the other belt because when the the washer is suppose to agitate it makes a high squeak and starts to smell like rubber burning. thanks Tim

Could be a faulty drain pump. Tilt the machine back just enough to see what’s going on under there during agitation. Make sure the motor glides freely on the motor mount.

it does drain out it spins and drains out fine with no problem its when it suppose ti agitate that it makes a sound and smells like belt burning. thats why i was wondering about other belt

Could still be the pump. Pump rotates in opposite direction during agitation. Need to determine if motor is running or locked up and just humming during agitation.

Which pulley is the large one or the two small ones thanks sorry for all the questions Ijust want to know what to look for.

Motor pulley is on the left, pump on the right, transmission in the middle.

The big pully does not turn when it it is suppose to agitate both small ones on the left turn. I propped the washer back as you said, now what? Thanks Tim

Sorry to bother you but what should i do now and do you have a link to diagrams of the washer so i know what each part is. thanks again Tim

You said you could rotate the transmission pulley either way by hand but it won’t rotate CCW when in agitate mode? Rotate the pulley CCW by hand and have someone observe the agitator to see if it is working. You say the motor pulley is rotating but transmission pulley is not in agitate mode? What is the belt doing? Pump could be binding the belt, motor sliding mount may not be operating properly to provide correct belt tension. Here is your parts manual.

Sorry I took so long to get back working. clockwise drum and agitator turns counter clockwise the agitator moves this is when i do it by hand. when I set it to agitate/wash and turn it on one belt connected t0 two small pully turns but the other belt that goes to large pulley just sits there and is loose. I think it is what You suggested motor sliding is not operating properly and is that what the name i need to look up for the part. Is there an illustration on how to remove and replace. Thanks again Tim

Thanks so much I will let yo . Know how it goes. Also if you need any advise for your computer let me know if am self taught computer tech. If I don’t answer and can research and find it.

I cleaned out dirt dust from washer moved the motor back and forth and it moved smoothly so I loosed the other pulley and tightened it back as instructed on video. That did the trick. Ran thru a cycle all good. Thanks for all your help!!! Tim
