Washer won't stop filling up

My washer won’t stop filling up on the rinse cycle and has overflowed gallons of water all over the floor. This has happened twice in the last four washing loads. What is wrong? Can someone please help me?

Do you have to shut off the water at the shut off to stop it from coming in? If so you could have a bad water valve. If you wash on hot, then it fills with cold on rinse, that would mean your cold water valve is bad. There are two valves listed for this model. I will list them both. You will need to look at yours and see which one you need. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. The water does stop when I press the large cycle knob in front. When I turn the knob to spin, the water does drain out. I will take out the part and look at it. Again, thank you. I cannot afford a new washer now, and I am hoping I can fix it myself since I am much handier with a spatula than a screwdriver!

Jeff: This is my second reply to your post. After reading your answer again, Is the water valve the same part as the cold water valve? Sorry, I just don’t know how these things work…

Ok if you can stop the water by turning off the machine, then your valve is fine and you need to check out your pressure switch. Inspect the hose going to the pressure switch for holes or tears. If the hose is fine, then you will need a pressure switch. Also you will need to see which switch your washer takes. I’m supplying both part numbers along with the pressure hose number, as well as the parts diagram link.
