My new GE washing machine doesn’t pump the drain water up to the next floor like our old Kenmore did. The water is flowing back down the drain into the washing machine and getting the clothes wet after they’ve been spun dry. Does anyone know of current makes and models of washers that have strong pumps that will push water eight feet above the washer? We’ve heard that older washers did this but that newer washers only pump a maximum of 5-6 feet above the washer. We’d really rather not spend hundreds of dollars having a sump pump installed if there’s a washer made out there somewhere that still has a strong pump or a way of buying a reliable older washer with a strong pump. Or maybe we could have a stronger pump added to our GE. Any ideas?
By the sound of it, it is pumping the water up to the next floor since it does pump it out but runs back in after the spin cycle.
It sounds like your old pump did not allow water to back flow through it and the new one does.
It is hard to say without being there but I would install a back flow valve at the machine. Should be a relatively cheap fix. This will stop the water from flowing back into the machine. Finding one that fits may be a problem try a couple plumbing suppliers.
The only problem is the pump may not have enough pressure to open the valve and push the water up but it is worth a try.
