Washing Maching Shake and Leak

Hello,

I have a Whirlpool LA9500XT washing machine that has an unbalanced tub. It has the following symptoms:

  1. The tub sits low in the front so when water is added tub it hits the rear top of the tube, causing a small amount of water to leak/flow over the rear top of tub and spill out the bottom of the machine.

  2. During the spin cycle, the machine shakes excessivly. Also, when water is added during the spin cylce it is thrown over the top lip of the tub.

When I examined the machined I noticed the motor counter balanced sping was unhooked. I went ahead and reconnected this spring but the symptoms didn’t change much.

I went ahead and replaced all 3 suspension springs, the motor weight counter balance spring, the pads and the spring mounting brackets (thanks for the quick shipping). The install was easy but the symptoms remained the same.

Anythoughts on what to look at next? As far as I can tell everything is fine except the weight of the motor/pump is pulling the front of the tube down so it is out of balance.

Hi Porter,

Did you check the tub support and the suspension plate? The Service manual might help you.

Hi Gene,

Thanks for the heads up. After a little thought I realized I installed the counter balance spring parallel to the floor and it should have been installed vertically. I must not have seen the hole since it was rusted away.

You are welcome. I’m glad you were able to fix it.
