Water dispenser not working, ice maker does

Hi,
I have a Maytag French door fridge purchased 1 yr, 5 mos ago. The icemaker works fine, but no water comes from the water dispenser and am hoping for ideas on what the issue is.
The fridge worked great from purchase, but the icemaker and water dispenser were never hooked up until late November '08 when our redone kitchen was finished. At first both worked fine, but after a couple of weeks water stopped flowing to the inside dispenser. The icemaker in the freezer has worked fine throughout (there are no exterior dispensers). It seems like the water has frozen somewhere since the problem started when I set the icemaker to stop making ice (maybe allowing the water to sit and freeze?) and when I removed the water filter, it had ice crystals. I ran the filter under hot water to melt the ice and reinstalled, but still no water. Icemaker has continued to make ice since I turned it back on.
Probably a related problem, the top shelf of the fridge portion often freezes items, though the thermostat reads 38-degrees.
It was a floor model from a reputable local dealer. My wife thinks therefore the door seal is perhaps not perfect from repeated showroom openings, making the fridge cool more to maintain temperature and freezing the water. I don’t think so (the seals appear fine) but am out of ideas. Maytag phone support was very little help.
Any ideas? I appreciate your thoughts

Check if the water tank (13 on the diagram) is not frozen.

Gene.

Hi Gene,

Thanks for the reply. I took a look, detaching the tank from the rear wall of the fridge and from the left tube, and yes, it appears the water is frozen inside, judging by the weight of the tank and no water flows out when I tip it (given the color of the tank, I can’t see any water inside, but I don;t see a water line). Water flows out of the left tube I detached it from.
Is the solution then to remove the tank and defrost it? If so, can I detach the other tubing (the right side that leads to the exterior of the cabinet in the rear) from inside, or is that done outside? It’s hard to tell from the diagrams?
Thanks again, you’ve already been a great help.

Thanks for your help Gene. You guys have earned a customer for life (and I already had thought your price for a part I bought last month was very reasonable). I did an odd workaround with this - I wrapped a heating pad around the tank for an hour and it freed up the water flow without having to detach it or defrost the fridge. I’ll keep the parts in mind in case it happens again.
Thanks again

I know it’s an old thread but thought I’d leave a note saying thanks. My tank was also frozen and to fix it I just opened the refrigerator for a bit and used a hair dryer. I had it unfrozen in a few minutes and then let several cups of water run out. That way I didn’t have to detach the tank at all. Thanks again!
