Water ponding in drum

The drum fills partly with water overnight when the washer is not on. If I open the front door, there is a puddle perhaps 1/2" to 1" high in the back of the drum. I checked the drain line and no clogs, I also assume there is a check valve so that drain water does not back in.

I assumed that it is a faulty fill valve and went ahead and ordered one from this site. Could this be a flow meter problem also?

Just looking for confirmation if possible that my initial diagnosis is probable.

Sounds to me that you have hit the nail on the head.

The fill valve just is not closing/sealing properly.
Not that rare of a problem.
