I kept hearing something running today and went into my kitchen to find water running from the water and ice dispenser on the refrigerator and flooding my kitchen. It was continuosly running into the ice maker so I pulled it out and turned off the water to it. I have read on other post that the dual water inlet valve may need replacing but saw where you could unplug the refrigerator to see if it would stay running therefore confirming the valve needed to be replaced. However since I turned the water back on it is no longer stuck open therefore I can’t try that test theory. Is there anything else that could cause this ?
Here are your parts

This may be a pain to trouble shoot.
it could be a couple of things.
-
The water vale is sticking open. When you turned off the water you lowered the water pressure in the valve so that may have allowed it to close.
You could put a pot/bowl under the ice maker to catch any overflow and give it a try.
The ice maker will have to come down to freezer temperature before it will start a cycle. -
There is a switch in the ice maker that controls the water valve perhaps it’s contacts stuck closed and when you unplugged the unit they released.
Number 1 is the more likely.
I would replace the water valve as it is the more likely cause and is the lower cost option.
You just cannot trust it anymore and a water leak can do a lot of damage if you do not catch it right away.
