Whirlpool Side-by-Side ice maker overfills, water runs over into freezer...

This model has the ice dispenser in the door, but for now I just want it to make ice!

I’ve had it for a year and the ice maker has not been connected, the previous owner did not have the ice maker hooked up either. So it has had no water in it for a very long time.

When I connect the water supply, it just continues to run into the ice cube tray, over-running and pouring water into the freezer.

It appears to have some kind of control unit that I’m assuming is supposed to allow a finite amount of water into the tray for each cycle. That’s not happening, it just runs until I shut off the water supply at the source.

I’m wondering if the valve is stuck from being dry so long, and/or if I can clean or repair it… or if it’s a sealed unit that has to be replaced?

This unit has the chilled water dispenser in the door as well, so the water inlet T’s off from that unit, one line goes to the freezer and one to the chilled water tank. Appears to be all one unit.

The water inlet valve may be staying open. You can swap the wires on the dual water inlet valve and disconnect the water line at the valve which goes to the ice maker. When you try the water dispenser the water will come out there. When you stop the water dispenser, if the water at the valve doesn’t stop, try in several time it may unstick it. If it does stop after trying it several times then the problem is with the ice maker.

While troubleshooting the fan and testing the wires in the harness attached to the fan, the wires separated from the harness clip. On the fan side, there is white, red, yellow and blue. On the fridge side there is white, red and pink. Is the yellow on the fan side supposed to be connected to the pink on the fridge side?

As an aside, I am replacing the control board, as there is relay clicking which happens intermittently, and the fan does not operate.
