Whirlpool drum separation.

Hello. I have a whirlpool duet wfw86hebw1 that I cannot get the drum apart on. I have pulled it out of the machine and removed all of the retaining clips. It’s still stuck together. Can anyone offer any insite on how to remedy the situation. Thanks!

Why are you trying to pull it apart? Are you hoping to fix a bearing issue?

I’m assuming you’ve separated the 2 halves of the outer plastic tub and are trying to get the metal basket out? If you’re stuck at the outer tub and have removed all the metal clamps there are often still plastic clips that lock the tubs together for the manufacturing process.

If you’ve gotten the plastic apart and are stuck at the metal basket I’m assuming you’ve removed the rotor from the back of the basket shaft. If not it’s never pulling through.
Even after the rotor is off when the bearings fail the shaft often welds itself to the bearing races due to the heat generated. You may be able to pound it out from the back but it’ll likely be damaged in the process.

When we do bearing jobs on these we usually replace the entire tub and basket assembly, my supplier doesn’t even provide the separate pieces.

I’m trying to separate the outer plastic drum. There is something between the two drums but I cannot get it out so I’ve taken the machine apart and am trying to seperate the drums now. They seem to be glued together or something.

I’ve never seen them glued together but it would not surprise me. Whirlpool had a lot of problems with those machines. That may be why I can only get it as an entire assembly now.

Usually if something is stuck in between the two I can get it out of one of the various holes. You may be able to rotate it to either of the drain or vent hole and get it that way with a coat hanger or something. Can you see it through the small holes of the basket?
