My whirpool electric dryer goes on when I hit the start button but doesen’t stay on. If I hold down the start button it will stay on but once I let it go it shuts off. I’ve replaced the switch but same thing happens. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Tom

Usually the motor centrifugal switch closes when the motor gets close to operating speed and this provides a parallel path to the start switch.
So you can release the start switch and the motor keeps running.
Do you get heat when you hold the start switch in.
The motor also has a second centrifugal switch which turns tje heater on.
So if you do not get heat when the motor is running it could be that the centrifugal mechanism in the motor is not activating the switches.
May be just dirty and/or clogged solid with lint.
The model number is LER5636PQO and I taped the start switch down and the dryer dries perfectly. I was concerned this could be fire hazard. Any further thoughts Thank You Tomuote=denman;302889]A model number may help others help you.

Sounds like either the centrifugal switch on the motor is toast or you have a loose/off wire.
