Whirlpool gas dryer won't start. Fuse is good

My Whirlpool gas dryer won’t start. I have power to the unit. The timer runs, no tumbling, no heat when I press the start button. I can hear the relay click when I press the button after turning the dial to off, then to a setting. Tried all settings. Nothing works. There is continuity across the the thermal fuse.

Any help would be appreciated.

I saw a post with a similar problem, but on a Whirlpool electric dryer. That individual finally determined that the issue was the timer motor. How would one go about testing that device?

Hi.

Using the multimeter check the continuity:

  • door switch Blue to White closed.
  • start switch Black to Blue closed (with power on and switch pushed in).
  • timer on timed regular TM-OR, BK-BU, T-W all closed.

If all of the above checks OK - replace the motor.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5139048

Thank you. Post the results.

Simon.

  • door switch Blue to White closed.
Disconnected door switch and tested outer leads with door closed, then open: OK

  • start switch Black to Blue closed (with power on and switch pushed in).
Disconnected wires from timer motor and tested Black to Blue: OK

  • timer on timed regular TM-OR, BK-BU, T-W all closed.
With dryer unplugged, set timer to "timed drying" and tested prongs of timer motor.
    TM-OR: OK
    BK-BU: OK
    T-W: [B]NO continuity

Thanks in advance for all of the assistance

Hi.

Install the jumper on T-W and start the dryer. If it kicks on - replace the timer.

Simon.

That was it!
Thanks so much for the assistance. You’re an asset to the forum.
Parts will be on order tonight.

My pleasure.

Can you run the dryer with the jumper on T-W, without replacing the timer?

Thanks

Greg

Hi.

Why wouldn’t the manufacturer make the timer with contacts T-W closed all the time?
If the timer is shut, replace it.

Simon.
