Whirlpool Gas Oven Won't Reach or Hold Set Temp.

Our oven intermittently doesn’t get hot enough. We’ve had a thermometer in it for a few months now and sometimes it works fine and sometimes not. When it doesn’t reach the set temp it is usually 50-75 degrees low. Up until now if it was running cool we could shut it off, turn it back on and it would usually work fine. Lately that trick is no longer working so now I’m digging into it to solve the problem once and for all.

3 months ago I replaced the control panel. Some buttons on the old one didn’t work anymore. This heating problem was present both before and after the control panel swap with no observed change.

I have confirmed tonight that both ignitors work fine and we have not noticed the burners clicking off prematurely nor have we noticed any gas smell. This next led me to suspect the temp sensor. I just checked continuity on that and got 1103 ohms so apparently that is also ok.

Now I’m stumped - what should I check next? There is a circular thermostat thingy on the back also but I haven’t found enough information to understand the relevance or test it.

I’m pretty handy so I’m up for whatever the issue might be. All help is greatly appreciated!

Justin

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Justin

I still haven’t figured this out and would love to hear any thoughts anyone has.

Thanks!
Justin

Your problem is intermittent, so your static resistance test on the sensor is meaningless. Do yourself a big favor and order a new sensor. It’s easy to install, and you can return it if it doesn’t solve your problem.

Ok thanks - I’ll go ahead and order it and report back.
