I have a 2009 Whirlpool Quiet Partner III. Just after 1 year of operating the soap dispenser door no longer opens during operation. I have read various posts on different models that suggest it may be the linkage assembly but I wanted to make sure before I take off the door panel.
Thanks!
Here are your parts

Here is a manual for a different model but I think the dispenser is the same

Note some units cam with a rinse aid level sensor. This has been discontinued as it was more trouble than it was worth.
Could be the dispenser solenoid has burned out.
You will have to open the unit up to find out what is going on.
If the solenoid is OK and you can manually get the door to open then odds are the control board is shot.
The dispenser is Item 8 in Section 3.
Click on it’s picture for more views of the part.
thanks for the info. The dishwashers in the manual are quite different than the one that I have but it appears that the dispenser is the same. If the solenoid is bad, is it easier to just replace the entire dispenser?
Also, what is the best method for checking the solenoid?

Yes.

Try to run it manually to see if it is OK mechanically.
Remove one wire from the solenoid and measure it with a meter. Should be 250 to 350 ohms approximately.
