Whirlpool Ice Dispenser

Having problems with ice dispenser. Whenever flap is pushed to dispense ice, nothing happens. Tried replacing ice dispenser motor but no fix. I am now thinking that this is a switch problem. Any ideas??

Water dispenser works. After some investigating found microswitch under dispenser cover was loose from bracket. (bracket was broken) Ordered new bracket and placed microswitch in correct position. Works fine now.

I’m glad you were able to fix it.

Gene.

Maytag Atlantis model MAV6257AWW wont spin when clothes are in. When empty, it will go through a cycle but it makes a loud whining noise. Can you tell me what part(s) I need?

When they get about 5 years of age they usually need a pump a belt a thrust bearing kit and the brake and stator and you just as well replace the snubber while you’r at it however you need to make a brake releas tool unless ya want to pay maytag 120 for one

How would one go about making a brake tool?

I just received my brake and seal tool from ************ today. Cost me $108.37 with shipping. Took less than 7 days to get here.

Is there any other way to replace the brake? I hope to not have to do this again.

No not really there is a big spring you are compressing with the tool

I read some time ago that if you find three 8-32 screws a half inch longer than the ones holding the stator in place, you can put them in, back out the short ones, then very slowly back out the long screws to remove the rotor. I have never tried this, but it seems plausible.

What are the characterists of this refrigerator when the defrost heating coils go out in a high humidity area? The bottom freezer grows ice on the back wall (upper frig gets warm) and the coils seem to be frozen. I can defrost using a hair dryer, water pours into the pan, and the unit works fine again for another 5-7 days. The defrost drain pan was dry today when it frosted over again. Unplug and a quick hair dryer attack, and all is well again. I can order parts from this company, but I am not sure this is the problem. Model mfg 10-2002.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn’t, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Part 12 on diagram 3 is your timer.

Thank you for taking your time to offer suggestions. We need a service repair manual and your answer helped. My husband will attempt your suggestions this weekend. We live on the ocean and the humidity seems to trigger this issue last summer and this summer, too. It NEVER happens when we can get the service company here to see the problem - so we have attempted to handle it ourselves. The hair dryer approach works "temporarily" but is not the fix or solution.

Thank you for the web address to the "How to…"
Under Defrost Thermostat, I was able to utilize a Multimeter and find the offending part. I went to Appliance Pros to order the part and found it called (Not a Defrost Thermostat Bi-Metal) a Thermostat Kit. There was some confusion about what to order in the name. Hopefully, this is the correct part and it will fix the problem.

Correction: Not Maytag bottom freezer - GE Profile PDS22LBNWW
Defrost Thermostat Bi-Metal is called Thermostat Kit which should appeat in diagram #4 (but is not shown) and listed as Item #29: Thermostat Kit, AP4009073.

Kinda boils down to choices: we’re doing our own repairs to save money and maybe enjoy diy-ing. How long does this Maytag model last with these diy repairs? Is the Brake tool worth the cash when we have to repair this same thing in another 5 yrs? What’s your time worth? Will you sell your own manufactured Brake tool for less than the going $110 bucks? Otherwise, collect the cash or 8-32 screws and diy it. Replacing the washer even with a used one costs me time/ money but the clothes will wash for what another five years. Limits to this diy-ing.

Just checked w/ my wife; 12 years is the current life of your Maytag Atlantis washer. Reason why she spent this amount of money via Lowes is to never have to buy another washer. Maytag used to be a lifetime investment but that ended w/ it selling to (is it?) Whirlpool? Manufactured to be replaced. Ok how come we can’t just DIY it instead? As per this forum, the symptoms I now have are 3-4 and for the replacement cost currently via Lowes are they over the $450 in repair costs this is going to run? Likely just get that new model and enjoy a new Maytag for the time/risk of repairs and something else failing. Gee, it may be time for the Control panel to go out. Uhmmm, doing the math, buying new over time, uhmmm, yeah, time for a new one.
