Whirlpool spin cycle noise

The washing machine makes mechanical clicking noise for about 10 seconds at the beginning of the spin cycle. Otherwise the machine works normally. Any ideas?

Possible there is a problem with the clutch. You have to remove the transmission and inspect the clutch.

Here is some more background. When the noise started, I inspected the machine and found the transmission leaking fluid. I removed it and replaced the shaft seal and resealed the top cover. The clutch had some oil residue so I wiped it clean with some mineral spirits and reassembled all the parts. The rubber coupling showed some wear, but was intact. The machine made no noise for a few days and then started up again. I disassembled the basket to make sure that there wasn’t anything loose in there, but the noise remained. Still think it is the clutch? Tim

Tim,

I would check the motor wiring harness and plug, but the clutch still more suspicious.
