Whirlpool Washing Machine

Inside the washing machine cabinet, attached to the frame, is a small (about 2") brass pin with a hole in end (looks like for a cotter pin) in a clear plastic holder.

What is it ?

It appears to perhaps be a "special tool" as opposed to a part (I could not find it on the 7 parts diagrams) maybe for use to keep something (tub?) from spinning while removing a nut or something.

Thanks very much.

Those are shipping pins. They are inserted during manufacturing to keep the suspension system from getting all out of wack during shipping. Small clips are inserted into the hole to keep them in place. The clips have a small strap attached to them that exits the back of the machine. When the washer is first installed, the installer yanks the strap out pulling the clips and the pins fall into the little cups. There should be two of them.

FB56 - you rock dude ! Thank you and I mean that. I didn’t think they were "in-use" and so when I had the cabinet off this weekend I removed them and the cup. Although I did only remove one. I will have to check next time I have cabinet open for the other one. I just wanted to make sure it/they were not some sort of counterweight or anythiny important. Thx again very much.

Thank you so much! I was sure the machine was going to self-destruct! You made my day!
